A crypto-violent system defines violence by its action not its effects. The fearful effects of violence proceed and persist from acts and threats of violence but are submerged in our inner lives. True justice would recognize and repair the ongoing temporal and social reverberations of every violent act.
Downloading substack did not disappoint! This was one hell of an essay to read. Tbh reading this was like scratching an itch you didn't know you had. Kudos to the author, you did amazing ❤️✌️
A very clear exposition of the way political systems manipulate reality to preserve the illusion of legitimacy. The 'stability' achieved is not stability at all. Rather, it is the permanent weighting of the balance in favour of capital. True balance would require allowing natural tensions to resolve without intervention and the parties find a balance that works well enough for all. The law requires that such tensions are resolved according to a formula that favours ownership which makes something of a mockery of the Scales of Justice.
Aficionados of Marxist thought will understand the use of the word violence in this context but I wonder if it puts off some who are curious but still in the grip of the capitalist narrative. There is is a shock value for sure but for some that shock will close rather than open their eyes.
Language is a tricky subject and I'm not sure there is a right answer.
absolute valid concern there, i have to add that predominately write for myself rather than trying to educate these days, that motivation has been diminished, mostly. but valid point nonetheless
I'm reminded of Michal Perelman's The Invention of Capitalism, in which he discusses how the classical economists like Smith, and Steuart publicly championed Laize-faire Capitalism, while in private correspondence they championed state violence to force commoners into factories.
This discrepancy between the public and private faces of the liberal elite and their various mouthpieces, has continued unabated for centuries.
Thank you for this excellent articulation that impels us to take action, because if we are going to be labelled violent, we might as well do things worthy of the label.

Nothing wrong with that! Education doesn’t have to be intentional.

glad that was the understanding of that rant, and yes! Perelman, that book laid the foundation
