Uncomfortably Numb
I am just glad I went to sleep at some point last night but waking up at 5am today and the subsequent 3 hours really haven’t done much for my head/heart. By the time this email will be sent out it will most likely be around 8am CET and, well, shit.
I was expecting this but still wasn’t quite prepared for this one. There aren’t many facts at this point, still, except this election is a lot closer than it should be. There are a couple of takes so far that are worth sharing but let’s keep in mind that this election is far from over, it is going to take time to get the final results and sadly, this election is most likely going to be decided in Republican controlled courts.
As with the last election and several before that, we genuinely cannot rely on mainstream pundits, polling and their profit-driven organizations. The majority of these organizations, that determine so much of the narrative, are so incredibly stuck in their bubbles that they have become useless. Ironically, both “fringe” sides that have been accused of being far too biased in their bubble existence have called this election correctly more so than your Fox/CNN actors and that’s worth noting.
Secondly, the fact that Biden at this point hasn’t nailed this in a home run proves the criticism myself and much of the “left” have been saying for months: calling out a fascist without offering a plan for the future is a sure way to lose. When your campaign is run on “nothing will fundamentally change” what do you expect? The fucked up reality is that even if Biden loses this, the DNC still wins, or, rather, no matter who you vote for the government stays in charge. Even more enraging is, and that is guaranteed if Biden loses, is that the DNC will go after their left like rabid dogs and ignore the reality of their own bullshit.
Thirdly, as predicted Trump is already crying wolf, as we all knew he would and our social media dictators are slow to put his ass in place. Sure, Twitter put a warning on his tweet but has failed to do so for his devil’s spawn tweet. Again, merely proving that discontent and division, lies and negativity making them more money than being a progressive, supportive entity that they keep trying to tell us they are. Whilst I don’t see any genuine effort towards this I do believe we really need to tackle the profit-driven greed in Big Tech/Social Media for our own sakes. Seriously.
Finally, and at this point, it appears as if a significant amount of US citizens that voted are ok with Trump and everything he stands for. This isn’t so much a verdict on Biden but more so on Trump. This is something to chew on for the rest of us in the world. Irrespective of how this election turns out, this is a reality for the rest of the world and worthy of a discussion.
I’ll leave it at this for now. Don’t be surprised if there will be another email later today, for now I will leave you with some talking points I found worthwhile to share.
They tell us that we live in a great free republic; that our institutions are democratic; that we are a free and self-governing people. This is too much, even for a joke. But it is not a subject for levity; it is an exceedingly serious matter. - Eugene Debs
