Morning Comrades.
Apparently the brain fog has lifted from this pneumonia and I woke up this morning with a few larger questions floating around my head that I wanted to tackle and share with you this week. To be sure, I know there are so many current events to be talked about it, shared and discussed and part of me even acknowledges my own desire to get into it all, and yet, I know attention spans are limited, not due to your own fault and so is time and whilst the topic for this week may seem unrelated to what is pressing today - or rather, it doesn’t tickle the rage dopamine kick we are all so addicted to - this topic has everything to do with what we are witnessing today and is leaving us in a catatonic state.
Whilst I still firmly believe that material realities shape and form our ideological framework of existence, we are going to step into the discussion of ideology as the most visible and thus the easier “target” for us to tackle, at the moment. The context from which we are starting today is the following:
Despite the Wests, with the U.S. being the core of the western empire since the end of WW2, declaration of progressive humanitarian intent since its inception, the dominating ideology of the western empire has since then been an anti-humanitarian one.
The culmination of the enlightenment lead the declaration of independence that famously set out the raison d'être of the West, namely:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
This is what the western ruling class created and has maintained since then to convince the vast majority of us the believe that our self-sacrifice for their enrichment has some higher, well-meaning, progressive purpose. Please, by all means, feel free to juxtapose this idea onto the repetitive shit show of western, especially US, elections, with ideological construct such as “the most important election of your lifetime” to “vote for me, or else you get the bogeyman” insanity. Whether or not the authors of the above actually believed this foundational ideological statement is entirely irrelevant also, since their actions proved otherwise and I do wholly believe that the generations that followed fully understood the power of this ideology to suppress any and all alternatives to the the Capitalists desired structure of the world - aka, they rule, we’re all fucked. As is the planet.
With that as our baseline reality, we then logically have to accept that the actual dominant ideology of the West has not been the above, nor its defence, but in actuality, the antagonism of any and all alternatives to their desired material reality. Why is that important you ask? For one, it posits the reality that our ruling classes are in no shape or form failing in their elected quest to provide the above but are actively and solely engaged in maintaining this anti-humanitarian reality and furthermore, actively engaged in suppressing and oppressing any alternative.
A piece of “news” from a few days ago prompted this train of thought, namely, this one:
Aside from the insanity that is the US defence budget and its criminal involvement around the world it is these types reality that really expose the fragility and true intentions of our constructed reality. For all intents and purposes, I do not have enough information on hand to fully understand what China is doing, other than obviously, uplifting a vast majority of its population out of extreme poverty, illiteracy and foreign oppression, successfully so and in ways different to how we have done it in the west, namely, through war, colonialism, genocide and theft. Just so we are clear, this is isn’t some veiled “China is the communist utopia” stan bullshit, again, I honestly don’t know enough and secondly, from what I do know, this is neither their intention nor the reality.
What matters though is, that since their revolution, they have tried to build a society entirely different to the one that the Pax Americana has imposed on the world since the end of WW2 and even more desperately since their “end of history” - and thus you get the above. As far as I understand, China poses no threat to me, but by its sheer existence, poses the ultimate threat to the Capitalist Ruling Class and their ideology. Thus, you are presented with a reality where huge amounts of resources that you and I have created, are used to indoctrinate you against their attempted reality, to a point, where this spills over into racism and ultimately war. Let that sit with you for a minute and then think back to the period of our grandparent and parents, the so-called Cold War.
It boggles my mind that our perceived and lived reality is utterly and solely shaped by the constructed antagonism against anything and everything the deviates from Capitalism. The sheer amount of resources and anti-humanitarian belief it has taken for the past 300 years to create the reality we all exist in here in the West is staggering and I despite my best efforts, have not found one study that even attempts to put a number on these efforts, from money to lives. Obviously, because, how can one put a number on our reality? I do think it is possible but it is a staggering task. The point being, again, is that I find it hugely important to understand the above. What we think we know about the world, our morality, our ethics, our belief systems, everything, is ultimately shaped by a constructed ideology that is ultimately, regressive and minority rule oppressive.
This then leads to a number of questions for the rest of the week. For one, I will tackle the above with a historical approach to illustrate how that position is absolutely a reality and then secondly, a more philosophical, marxist approach to some uncomfortable realities, for example, is the attempt towards communism, as an alternative to capitalism, inherently moral because of the dominant ideological opposition to it and more.
If we understand that, “the owls are not what they seem”, I believe that we can de-construct our violent reality understand what is going on the world more clearly and actually build the grounds from which we can liberate ourselves from their oppression.
