Morning Comrades.

The other day I read, or rather re-read a few pieces by Nasser Abourahme on the subject of Zionism and this specifically, really stuck with me:

“Zionism, actually existing Zionism, is possibly the most concentrated distillation of colonial racism and state excess in the contemporary world. Bar none. It’s not just that it’s the inheritor of Europe’s colonial project in its most self-righteous form. It’s also the contemporary vestige of state racism and power in the kind of unrestrained form that elsewhere had to be disavowed.

A proud holdover of what everyone else in the West had to pretend not to like anymore. A state racism and power that frees itself from any self-repressive mechanisms, does away with any pretense or even hypocrisy, and wades directly into the unbridled cruelty and sadism that the bourgeois Western political order had to at least pretend it had overcome.”

Based on their insightful thoughts and even more compelling words I am offering a continuation thereof below. What Nasser Abourahme names with brutal clarity is something many have tiptoed around for decades: Zionism, in its actually existing form, is not just an ideological outlier or some accidental historical anomaly. It is the conscious survival of colonialism in a post-colonial world. It is not merely influenced by Europe’s genocidal past, it embodies it. Israel, as the material expression of Zionism, is not a break from Western liberalism’s violent legacy but its most honest continuation. It is the West without a mask.

To understand this requires shedding illusions, not only the state department fictions of “shared democratic values” but also the liberal delusions of “two states,” “peace processes,” and “mutual recognition.” Zionism is not a misunderstood nationalism or a defensive posture it is the organised, militarised, and racialised imposition of settler sovereignty on an indigenous people. It is colonialism reanimated at a time when its peers have been forced to speak in euphemisms, to outsource their violence, or to hide it behind supranational institutions.

There is no longer room for ambiguity. Zionism, not as an abstract idea but as the actually existing political and military regime embodied in the state of Israel, is the most distilled expression of colonial violence and racial domination in our present world. It is not an aberration. It is not a “conflict.” It is not complicated.

It is settler colonialism without euphemism. It is apartheid without apology. It is genocide broadcast in HD, funded by the West, and normalised through propaganda, silence, and cowardice. To understand this, and to fight it, we must reject the liberal script. We must confront Zionism not as an exceptional tragedy, but as the logical endpoint of a system: a system that began with Europe’s imperial exterminations, evolved through settler colonial states like the U.S and survives now in Israel, where it remains violently proud of what the rest of the West has learned to conceal.

Zionism Is Not a Break from Western Liberalism, It Is Its Continuation

Zionism was never about “return.” It was never about peace. It was about conquest, and the erasure of a native people under the language of redemption. It is the colonial dream reborn in an era when its peers had to learn to shut up about it. In a world of post-colonial lip service, Israel proudly reanimates the settler logic of extermination and replacement.

From its beginnings, Zionism has been backed and armed by the imperial core: by the British Empire’s Balfour Declaration, by the United Nations partition plan, and then by decades of uninterrupted U.S. military and diplomatic support. Zionism inherited not only Europe’s colonial grammar but its genocidal confidence.

Israel is not the West’s moral burden. It is its fantasy come true: racial domination with no restraint. Ethnic cleansing with no guilt. A military apartheid regime that murders civilians, jails children, demolishes homes, blockades food and medicine, and gets away with it every time.

Where the West had to learn the language of "restraint," Israel never bothered. It does what France did in Algeria, what Britain did in Kenya, what the U.S. did to Indigenous nations, and it does it in full view, with impunity.
