This is such an important commentary on our digital engagement practice. I had several ‘but’s as I read it but you answered every one.
I have nonetheless two personal challenges. First is finding like minds around me and second is overcoming my lifelong reluctance to join any group both of which I am finding quite difficult! Still trying, though.
I am on board with this analysis. Before internet, we read articles and books and only in the rarest of times had opportunity to communicate with authors and other readers. Most folks read in isolation unless they were involved in the academy. Now we have tech that provides access to a broad range of content and allows us to conduct remote conversation which breaks down the isolation but it's been captured and apparently enclosed by capital.
What I don't understand us why the nonprofit world hasn't built its own internet universe where profit taking is unavailable and we find each other organically by word of keyboard and self-initiated search.

i get that, and the online experience can be a
place to find those people, there is no denying that, but to be sure, those people are out there
