Historical Development, Political Influence, and Contemporary Role in Zionist Strategy

Founded in 1923 amidst the rise of nationalism and anti-Semitism in interwar Europe, Betar was the youth arm of the Revisionist Zionist movement, a political current that advocated for Jewish statehood through strength, military preparedness, and unapologetic nationalism. The ideas seeded by Betar have profoundly influenced the trajectory of Israeli politics, particularly through the rise of the Likud Party, Benjamin Netanjahu’s party. In addition, Betar’s ideological network remains tied to pro-Israel lobbying in the diaspora and continues to inform the push for Jewish settlement in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Let’s dig into their origins, ideology, influence and roles in the Zionist Movement.
