At the time of writing this it looks as if the US is joining the already 100 country long list of places that is willing to waive IP for their covid-19 vaccines. Now, before we get excited, this is a small step in 6 month long overdue, criminal decision and I am not entirely sure what the deciding factor here was, yet, rest assured, now is the time to light a collective fire under our governments asses to make this happen. The door cracked open a little and now is the time for a massive push to topple this death cult.
As per usual on Fridays, below are several suggestions for your viewing pleasure to help you opt out of the mind numbing propaganda spewed out on our modern day version of cable tv.
Now this is big one, a full 5 hours that is SO HUGELY worth your time. Ex-Yugoslavia is very dear to my heart and its history and people equally as much. As an idea and praxis it worked to offer an alternative to the west and the east during the cold war and precisely why we don’t learn much from it. This documentary serves as an excellent start into this history for anyone interested.
I sure as drop the word neoliberalism around here often but I realized not everyone might be entirely up to speed what that actually means. Lucky for us, the one and only Abigail Thorn did a talk about it and even if you think you know what I am rambling on about, this is also very much worth your time.
Once again DW shares another incredible documentary, this time on Manufacturing Ignorance. One by one, this film dismantles the machinations that aim to turn science against itself. With the help of declassified archives and testimonies from experts, lobbyists and politicians, this investigation plunges us into the science of doubt. Along with a team of experts, including philosophers, economists, cognitive scientists, politicians, and scholars, this explores concrete examples of how doubt can be sown.
Not so much visual entertainment but a recommendation for further reading, Crimethinc has this most excellent book currently on offer. In line with Graeber’s ideology of Bullshit Jobs, this book asks important questions such as: After so much technological progress, why do we have to work more than ever before? How is it that the harder we work, the poorer we end up compared to our bosses? When the economy crashes, why do people focus on protecting their jobs when no one likes working in the first place? Can capitalism survive another century of crises? Get it here.
The Fuckening is taking a backseat today and because of that you can be sure that there will be a dump truck full of it come Sunday.
I was on the fence about sending the manufactured ignorance video your way, looks like we happened to watch it at the same time.
