Afternoon Comrades.
Today’s dispatch comes a few hors later than usual as I wanted to wait on the election results out of Chile in regards to their new proposed constitution. I have a few thoughts about that, that I’ll share shortly.
For the time being, a warm welcome to all the new subscribers here this week. As we are starting into the 3rd year of this project a few words about what goes on here and how all this works. Predominately, I use this space to explore various topics in and around a marxist worldview, centred in humanism and direct action. Originally, this space was intended to bring whatever “content”- yikes - I had shared on IG over to a platform that wasn’t brutally skewed to mind numbing fascist bullshit but that has changed over the last 2 years and I am increasingly happy with the progression. Now that the PhD project has been completed also I am going to see what else I can bring into this space that I am increasingly seeing as an alternative platform to my old class rooms.
There are two tiers to this project. A free version from which you get 3 dispatches a week, usually, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s. If you can and decide to become a patreon for 10USD a month you get an additional dispatch, usually on Thursday that includes a free print for you to download weekly, discount codes and my appreciation for helping me pay rent, as annoying as that is. The aim, always, is to be constructive, helpful, educational, non-reactionary and in unwavering support of the working classes around the world.
As always, let’s kick off this week with some new tunes!
Another weekly jams stacked with tunes that made my week that much more bearable- heaps of new songs and classic deep cuts from most genres that I find exciting. Jump right in, you can hear autumn knocking on the door with this one.
A few words about the proposed new constitution for Chile, that was rejected by a wide margin yesterday. I was excited about the proposed changes for the country. For full transparency, I have several close friends and comrades in Chile and having heard from them often over the last few years, from the brutally oppressed protests that genuinely kicked off in 2019 to overthrow the remnants of Pinochet’s ultra-fascist and neoliberal rule, hearing about their excitement that their protests at great personal costs were looking to pay off in the sense that an base-democratic process had been kick started to write a new constitution, well, even I was excited for them. The result aside for a moment, the process to write a new social contract for an entire country that was based on a democratic process of council-communism ( the purest form of democracy ) was indeed exciting, no matter how I much I do not believe “reform” to be possible via the established power structures here in Europe. An important lesson here is that one should not criticize / be in the way of change in a place that has suffered at the hands of the empire that you live in but support the chose path of ones comrades where it is wanted and needed. The world has seen and suffered enough at the hands of judgemental, purity theorists in the global North West.
Nevertheless, and despite an inspirational new proposed constitution for Chile, it was rejected yesterday. I am going to leave the space for reaction to those that worked on this, are directly affected by this and who live in Chile. My own thoughts about reform via existing capitalist power structures are well know, for the time being, it is time to congratulate everyone brave enough to stand up to a brutally enforced capitalist structure for a better tomorrow, for everyone. An important lesson from all this is how vital the structuring and organization was in utilizing a genuine democratic approach for a new social contract, that is definitely something for all of us to look into and learn from. The fight continues.
Following are a number of stories, essay’s, opinions etc that have interested me over the last few days that I wanted to share with you. All pieces are linked in the respective pictures.
This from my comrade David, an absolute fascinating piece or insight rather into the hive mind of the US billionaire class. It eerily reminded me of a two part science fiction novel that I read some ten years ago by Daniel Suarez called Daemon and Freedom that I can only recommend, if you are interested in reading about where are heading towards, in our lifetime. The above article is insane in the sense that an outside was granted access to these people and their world view - you cannot really call it an ideology as it is so deeply sociopathic but you decide for yourself.
That is it for today. Thank you for your time, attention, interest and support.
Yours, without compromise,
V.
