Perseverance in the Pursuit of Utopia
Revolutionary Optimism, Scientific Utopianism, and Survival Amid Capitalist Darkness
Morning Comrades.
Now that I got my rant out of the way earlier this week I will try and get my shit together and focus on a little more positivity, try being emphasized here. There were a couple of over-arching thoughts floating around the internet these last couple of weeks that caught my attention, a lot of them revolved around the idea of why we fight that led me to think on subjects such as freedom vs liberation. I am not going to go out and say that these topics will form some sort of ideological basis for these next few weeks but as always, for transparencies sake that is where my head is at.
As important it is to be informed, rather than entertained, and keep up to date with what is happening around you and what has influence on your community, taking a step back regularly helps centre intention and focus. The prevailing narrative often champions capitalism in the West as the driving force behind progress, prosperity, and a higher quality of life. While it is true that capitalism has yielded impressive economic growth and wealth for the ruling and property owning class, it is beyond clear that for the rest of us it’s been nothing short of a nightmare. It leaves us feeling alone, helpless, afraid and fighting one another and to be clear, it left me doing so much self destructive shit that I doubt I will bounce back from in this lifetime. However, there was and continues to be a path out of this hellhole, I was shown by wonderful teachers and comrades and figured to kick start this 5th year, it is my turn now.
For total clarity here, understanding, then bridging the gap from inherent optimism to scientific utopianism is not some grift to get you to join some religious cult - understanding leads to clarity that leads to intent that leads to action. Only through is is a sustainable revolution possible and we cannot do this alone. Following are a few core ideas, their most prominent thinkers and doers that have and continue to help me go from blind rage to optimism to intentional utopianism. And yes, the rage remains and that’s important.
