News From the Void
Free Art, Anti-Imperialism, The People's Summit, Columbia, Police Abolition and More!
Morning Comrades!
A little housekeeping before I wrap up this week. I am heading out of town for a few days to touch some grass and this newsletter will resume its usual program on Thursday, potentially Wednesday but no promises.
Most of the Riot drop is shipping over the weekend and you will be getting automated emails as and when that happens, or rather, hopefully if I can remote access it all. I’ve got some new merch ideas in the pipeline but one of the reasons I am tapping out for a few days is also to re-think some of this operation. More news on this as it becomes clear.
As a thank you for your 2 year long support, attention and interest here is a free to download piece of artwork from the Black Lodges archive that I have always enjoyed. Just hit the link in the picture, download the file, take it to your local print shop and treat yourself. If you have any questions or need some help, feel free to email me.
Also, a subtle reminder to get into this week’s playlist and jam out over the weekend.
Lastly, a very subtle reminder that you can become a patreon-style supporter of this work here by becoming a paying subscriber to this newsletter. It’s 10USD a month, cancelable at any time and aside from my generous gratitude you get an extra email a week, weekly free art to download and a discount code for any and all merch that I put out.
To wrap up this week I wanted to share a number of resources, essays and infotaiment that go tme through these last few weeks and certainly played a role in the last couple of essays. No need to to dig though these immediately, they all take time and attention, but by all means save them and maybe come back to them over the weekend.
And Then There Was No More Empire All of a Sudden
Another brilliant and insightful essay by Vijay Prashad over on the Tricontinental in regards to the upcoming Summit of the Americas, it’s history, the alternatives and the historical context in the waning imperial influences of the US in Central and South America. An absolute must read.
Speaking of alternatives, the People’s Summit for Democracy that is taking place in Los Angeles on June 8-10 is precisely that and I am an acid supporter of this work. If you happen to be in the area and care about getting organized, this is your place.
Continuing with the struggles in South America, I am sure most of you have been paying attention to the ongoing elections in Columbia, who after 20 years of US dominated right-wing rule are in a position, like so many other wonderful places in the Global South to start an electoral change away from the US and self-determination. For a more detailed insight into what is what and what is at stake please read the below article.
In regards to the recent essay on the police, I desperately wanted to share this excellent reading list from Verso on the subject of police abolition. I relied heavily on this over the last few years and I am certain you will find work here to help you any everyone else in their understanding of a potential world without the police.
Lastly, these are some great youtube programs, clips, rabbit holes for you to get into over the weekend, presented without comment because you know what the deal is.
On that note, happy pride, it’s a riot, make it so, fuck all the corporate rainbow-washing and I’ll see you out on the streets.
Much love to you all, until next week, I remain yours, without compromise,
V.
