As hinted at, this is a multi-part story - and by looking at what there is left to say this may well continue into next week, but let’s see how much I can write here before this turns into a University lecture that all all of 6 people want to attend - and yes, that has happened.
Today we will get into how after the Bourgeoise Revolutions of the 1700s and 1800s that have utterly shaped our world today, the concept of Morality was weaponized by the ruling classes to justify their horrific track record of colonization, exploitation, hell, in short, capitalism.
Modern Western democracy is a history intertwined with colonialism - both stemming from the economic reality of capitalism ( infinite growth ) that in turn has resulted in a most barbarian conquest of the rest of the world by the West, masked by a faux moral responsibility of bringing civilization to the planet. We will explore some key philosophical arguments that shed light on the connection between modern Western democracy, colonialism, and the evolving nature of societal ideals.
