Morning Comrades.
This may well be a multi-part series of ideas and observations as hinted at on Monday, as the question of morality and its role for our understanding of ourselves is playing an increasing role in my own head. Obviously, the subject itself is big enough to fill entire libraries, and it already does and with that I will try keep this as cohesive as possible. To explain my own train of thought here over the last couple of weeks:
Our existence, how we both materially and metaphysically, experience and interact with reality is shaped both by the economic experience of capitalism as well as a foundational idea of who we are, exercised through concepts of morality, law - what Gramsci coined as cultural hegemony. I posit that it is a fair assessment that both of these pillars are determined by the land owning classes and their pawns, the bourgeoise - and whilst us workers have our own ideas and ideals, their monopoly on violence, both materially and metaphysically, overrules ours - as witnessed, at the very least by the last 600 years of history. I furthermore posit that the ruling classes are fully aware of the immorality of their system and have thus created a system of belief that we, as white Europeans - and this applies to the Northern America’s - are inherently “good”, “just”, and “moral” - guided by principles of justice and fairness, as- mostly falsely, propagated to have dervived from the Ancient Greek Philosophers.
If you accept that this position it becomes incredibly clear just how deep the disconnect between the ruling classes and us have become- even if one were to just assess this from the last weeks- the narrative spun by the majority of Western “leaders” and the response on the streets in regards to Palestine, yet, obviously it runs much deeper than that, as their neoliberal hell-scape is done. If you take this idea and couple it with the genuine economic collapse of Western Unipolarity we can assess that we, truly, find ourselves at the end of the Western reign of the world. Not only are the scraps the ruling classes have given us from our labour non-existent but their case for maintaining their system, the rules based order, democracy, freedom - call it what you will - is no longer holding up. It’s the same or similar fairy tale of the American Dream that for generations has been the mechanism of exploitation that most have us have eschewed but more importantly, their moral case and narrative of being “right” has now also run its course.
This is what we are getting into and as always, the question of “why is this even important” has to be answered. For one, the more you know and all that, obviously, but on a deeper level, understanding the unravelling of their system of oppression disguised as freedom allows us all to understand the fragility of their rule and the ease with which we can actually help build a world that we all, inherently, know to be what they’ve always tried to sell us. With that, let’s start with the idea of their morality and their democracy, their lies and violence.
