Morning Comrades.
Thanks for all the kind messages and offers of support in response to the latest nonsense from yet another faceless, soul and planet destroying corporate entity. It’s appreciated. Truly.
Often, a question that I got in reference to this fuckery was: Is this legal and surely you can sue them for compensation?
There are several, but two poignant, ways to approach this subject, a subjective personal one and a philosophical / actionable one - both of which we will get into today. Primarily, and thankfully so, I would wager that the majority of us haven’t had to deal with “the law” and thus are still under the impression that “the law” is objective - no shame in that whatsoever, it is one of the biggest pillars upholding western capitalistic society. It’s also one big fucking lie. Unfortunately, mostly for myself and my non-existing savings, I have fucked around and found out too many times and ended up in court too often to truly only have an objective / philosophical way to approach this but I will do by best- ahem - to get not get sidelined by own experiences.
To cut a long story short, “the law”, the construct of legality and its purpose is an invention of the propertied & monied class to protect theirs and them alone. For the rest of us it exists solely as a moralized instrument of punishment for stepping out of their line. In relation to the corporate thievery all that means is this: yup, I could sue them, but without money I cannot pay a lawyer to do so, Urban Outfitter has plenty, will drag this out until I run out of said imaginary money and that’s that. It’s a story as old as Capitalism itself. Nevertheless, let’s get into with the help of Marx and Luxemburg as starters to help you shun all illusions that “the law” is objective and let alone on our side.
