Morning Comrades,
Once again, it is deep dive time again, but then what else are we here for otherwise. As the title suggests I will be spending the rest of the week on material ideas of individualism, ego and how they pertain to our revolutionary struggle towards liberation from capitalism. And yes, we do have to tap into Hegel, Jung and so on but I will keep that as easy to digest as possible.
We all know the crux, the bullshit American dream of the rugged individual and so on. I have no mind to write a rage essay on the juvenile constructs created by capitalists the justify and moralize their exploitation- but, it’s worth noting that this cultural construct turned material reality, the ego, the individual both again as an idea of economic measurement, exploitation and cultural alienation / domination is a major obstacle in our path.
As Marx so clearly stated, and nothing describes what we are talking about here better than this:
“To be radical is to grasp the root of the matter. But for man the root is man himself.”
Karl Marx, Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right
Understanding the nuanced perspectives of individualism, as elucidated by Hegel and Marx, is paramount in the contemporary struggle for liberation from capitalism. Both philosophical frameworks offer critical insights into the role of the individual within society and the implications of capitalist ideology on individual freedom. By comprehending these perspectives, activists and scholars can develop more nuanced strategies for challenging capitalist hegemony and advocating for social change.
So, get in comrades, we are going for a ride.
