Morning Comrades! Off the bat, yes, I am dropping the above as a shirt this Friday. It was an off the cuff idea worked out with two other lovely people here over the weekend. Not that I needed a reason to continue my work into the re-appropriation of corporate logos for the greater good but I am sure some of you have taken note of the fact that The North Face are currently suing the legend that is Futura, or rather countersuing him after ripping off his work without consent, let alone payment. This happens and has happened all the time and for a long time and it brutally illustrates the fallacy of allowing corporations to enter out life space, let alone working for or with them. They never have and never will have a genuine interest in honouring creative work that has in part created healthy subcultures. Fuck them all as far as I am concerned and I will continue to rip off their corporate identities to raise money for genuine causes. Stay tuned, this thing is coming in hot.
Despite a lethal pandemic still in full swing, here in Europe, the European Football Championship is full swing. I won’t be commenting on my disdain for this nonsense but rather focus on the severe fuckening from the UEFA, the governing body for this cheap ass procurement of nationalism to make billions. The German national team is set to play the Hungarian national team on Wednesday in Munich and wanted to light up their stadium in the LGBTQ+ Rainbow colours, especially because the Hungarian government is a full fledged fascist shit show. Hungary is being investigated by the European Commission over a new law that bans the sharing of content that portrays homosexuality or sex reassignment with people under the age of 18. The law, which was introduced by Fidesz, the movement of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, will target educational materials at schools and TV shows that target minors and has been described as a broad-based attack on the country's LGBT community ahead of a crucial election in 2022. So, obviously, the UEFA denied the request to light up the stadium in the rainbow colours.
"UEFA, through its statutes, is a politically and religiously neutral organisation. Given the political context of this specific request – a message aiming at a decision taken by the Hungarian national parliament – UEFA must decline this request," the statement read.
Hungarian foreign minister Peter Szijjarto had defended the new law on Monday and said that sporting events had nothing to do with national legislation.
"We have passed this law to protect Hungarian children and Western Europe is now fighting against it,"Â he said. "I find it harmful and dangerous to confuse politics with sport. Historical experience shows that. If anyone, the Germans know this for sure."
