Afghanistan.
Morning Comrades! Let’s start this week, that is looking to be tough one, with some good news in the shape of this weeks new playlist, as it is an absolute banger. Again, totally unsure as to why but last week was filled with heaps of great old and new music. It’s a little longer than usual at 3.5hrs but very much worth your time. It dips in and out of punk/new wave, post-punk, pop, soul, rhythm and blues, soul and all the little crooks in between that will put a smile on your face. I also fell into a German New Wave K-Hole a couple of days ago so let’s see how you get on with that one. Here you go:
At the time of writing this, Sunday evening, it looks and sounds like, by all accounts, that Afghanistan has fallen back into the hands of the Taliban. As predictable, and avoidable that always has been it has me feeling all kinds this evening. Personally, a few friends from my past had to go over to fight a war that they never understood, wanted any part of and died. That was also entirely avoidable but us poor kids who get forced into the military mostly due to poverty have been dying for the enrichment of the war mongers for millennia. By all means don’t mistake my own personal coldness of this fact as a lack of empathy, it’s just a stark, unnecessary, violent reality of life. Far more brutal, vile, immoral has been our 20 year long occupation of a country and the suffering we have caused there since, for nothing but increasing the profits of a very few already obscenely rich people all the while refusing refuge for anyone that fled our making, plainly exposing the criminal nature of these capitalists and their public facade we are told to believe is our government. The entirety of this colossal crime committed, the human tragedies that have happened and in the coming weeks will unfold are down to the greed of a few men who put their greed above everything and everyone else, disguised with a plethora of “ideas” to brainwash the entire West into believing in a “just” cause. If anyone needs a small reminder of what I am referring to I highly suggest you invest 5 minutes into this clip as a starter.
At this point there is absolutely nothing we can do to stop the tragedies that are about to unfold in Afghanistan. What we can and must do, starting now is putting pressure on our respective governments to take in every human being that wants and needs refuge, at the very least. I know this has been happening here and elsewhere already, but with Germany, for example, still deporting Afghans back to Afghanistan on the daily every form of resistance against these vile and inhumane acts by our so-called governments to pander to far right extremists and their capitalist friends needs to be pulled out of the bag, now.
