20 Years.
Morning Comrades! I am going to write a little about 9/11 in here today. Whilst I debated to run a special on that day I figured, correctly, that on the 20th anniversary of that day everyones timelines would be flooded with too much of it all and I wanted to give myself a day or so to think on it as well.
Before that, and happily as always, here is the link to the this week’s playlist. Another 3 hour journey deep and down the rabbit hole of forgotten deep cuts sure to put a smile on everyones face and maybe even a little boogie. Fall is definitely having an effect on these tracks so expect a somewhat slower ( sometimes ) darker mood creeping into these. This week spans from Skinny Puppy to Mary Lou Williams, from new King Krule tracks to Faraquet - it’s a lot of deep cuts of pure joy.
There isn’t much that can be said about 9/11 that hasn’t already been said. 20 years after the fact the world has so brutally changed for the worse that what remains to be said is that we so utterly and desperately need accountability to move forward. These last few years have seen an increased awareness in the lies, war-crimes and wholesale destruction the “leaders” of the “west” have caused after 9/11, utilizing the shock to eradicate and erode civil liberties at home whilst waging wars around the world at the behest of Haliburton and the Industrial War Complex, seemingly the last throes of the dying empire that gaslights itself to a degree that we haven’t invented words for it yet. Nevertheless, the awareness of the planned cruelty and crimes committed by the western 1% is increasing and a more critical narrative is emerging, that I am thankful for. Through this analysis we can create a narrative for this horror to not be repeated. Granted, the forces at play to rehabilitate those responsible are strong at continously at work and thus it is our role to live and offer the counterargument.
Another interesting development of late is the realization that the original 9/11 war crime happened in 1973, when Pinochet and Nixon overthrew Chile’s first Marxist President in a violent military coup that installed a brutal, fascist dictatorship. Oddly enough this has resulted in a glorification of Allenede, that whilst mostly accurate in the case of exposing the US’ crimes also neglects to address the failures of the Allende government, important lessons for us to carry forward. Allende fell not simply because imperialism and counter-revolution on Pinochet’s side were stronger, but because Allende’s government itself failed to advance the revolutionary transition in Chile, as his government disarmed workers, preferred to reconcile with the Right and the Army, inviting them into the cabinet, returned companies to their owners, repressed the copper miners’ strikes and sidelined the Mapuche movement and the Far-left (represented then mostly by MIR). As important it is to remember the Allende Marxist movement in Chile and blind sided memory focusing solely on the US / Pinochet crimes does not help us, moving forward. Never build coalitions with reactionaries and push forward with the clearest of intents in building a new reality.
I am going to leave you with these most brilliant words from Hunter S. Thompson, written shortly after 9/11.
